We are a not-for-profit organization which integrates a multi-disciplinary approach to extending quality health care to an under-privileged rural population in a tripartiate partnership with the Zillha Parishad and state Government, Which is Probably the logest Lasting Public private mix ongoing in the country today.

Shirdi Sai Baba Rural Hospital

    We seek to build progressive, self-reliant rural communities by bridging the gap in the services provided in the villages in the areas of health, environment.
    The Shirdi Sai Baba Rural Hospital, situated in the Vadu Budruk village in Shirur Block of Pune District comprises the 2 nd tier of the Vadu Rural Health Program. Founded in 1981 with financial support from the Government of India, State Government of Maharashtra and the Shamdasani Foundation, this 30-bed hospital managed by the KEM Hospital, Pune provides secondary level care to the 22 villages of the Vadu Rural Health Program with a population of 68,000 and beyond.

INDEPTH utilises its AGM every year mainly as a scientific forum for members and others to share their experiences in HDSS work. The AGM also does administrative business. Various stakeholders attend. The 2009 AGM will be organised on behalf of INDEPTH by our member sites in India - Vadu and Ballabgarh. A call for contributions will be announced soon.

Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS)

    We independently track vital events including births,deaths, causes of death, migrations and marriages and serves to monitor trends in fertility and mortality inter alia over time.
    The word "Demographic Surveillance" means to keep close track of the population dynamics. Vadu HDSS deals with keeping track of health issues and demographic changes in Vadu rural health program (VRHP) area. It is one of the most promising projects of National relevance that aims at establishing a quasi-experimental intervention research setting with objectives.

Research

    The research agenda prioritizes existing needs of public health importance but also addresses research needs for newly emerging public health issues.
    Vadu, in partnership with the KEM Hospital Research Center , Pune has a rich historical tradition in health care and development being in the forefront of needs-based, issue-driven, research since the 1980s. The strength of research in Vadu has been the geographically defined population base followed up over time and the ability to integrate research and practice.

- Shirdi Sai Baba Rural Hospital , Vadu has recently established a fully equipped ophthalmic department that performs cataract operations at as low as Rs. 500 per operation.
- Shirdi Sai Baba Rural Hospital , Vadu has enhanced its services of General Surgery and Gynecology & Obstetrics by adding services of Dr. Anand Joshi (Gen Surgeon) and Dr. Vaibhav Dangat (Gynecologist and obstetrician).
- Dr. Rajesh Paradhi has taken over as the Resident Medical Officer (RMO).
- Vadu has recently received ultra modern ABX 60 Cell counter that helps to get Haemogram within 5 min.
